The school was established in 1945 and is the oldest school in Opole, a town in west-south Poland. Since its establishment, it has been operating as a general high school. So far it educated both candidates for science, in cooperation with the Institute of Mathematics at the Opole University and for humanities. There are 18 classes with the following specialities: mathematical class with computer graphics or architectural drawing, biochemical class with elements of dietetics, biochemical class, journalism class, linguistics and law class, linguistics and business class. Number of students: 544 and a number of staff: 73. We have teachers of English, German, French and Spanish among the school staff. The students of the school are partly young people from Opole but majority of them come from nearby villages and small towns. The school organizes individual classes for sick children and has facilities for the disabled. The school has one building with 22 classrooms. We have several subject labs, including two computer, chemical, physical and two mathematics labs, all equipped with interactive boards. The facility has a library with a reading room, a cafe, a gymnasium, a football pitch and a gym. A characteristic feature of the school is the development of student self-governance, the school is represented annually in the Youth City Council by the
President of the City of Opole. The school organizes voluntary activities in which many students are involved. Since 1990, the school has been exchanging youth with the French high school in Gray. The agreement provides two meetings a year, one in Poland, one in France and focuses on learning about the elements of culture, history and everyday life. In the concept of school development, one of the most important directions is establishing contacts and developing exchanges and international cooperation.
